Hiligaynon Words

1.)  Respeto  –  Respect 

–   a feeling or show of honor or esteem for someone or something.

Example:  Show them with respect and take care of them.

Translation : Ipakita sa ila nga gina respeto kg gina alagaan mo sila.

2.)  Ginikanan  – Parents 

–  one that begets or brings forth offspring

Example :   The paper must be signed by a parent or guardian of the child.

Translation : Ang papel dapat ma pirmahan ka ginikan sang bata,

3.)  Higugma   –  Love 

–  strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.

Example : He was just a lonely man looking for love.

Translation : Siya isa ka masubo nga tawo nga gapangita higugma.

4.)   Isip / Isipa    –  Measure

– an adequate or due portion

Example : It doesn’t measure of who you are as a person.

Translation : Indi na ma isip kung ano ka nga tawo.

5.)   Buhata   –   Do 

–  to bring to pass.

Example : Do this.

Translate : Buhata ini.

6.)  Kaon   – Eat 

– to take in through the mouth as food

Example : You’ll feel better if you eat something.

Translation : Manami pamatyagan mo kung ma kaon ka.

7.)   Uma   –  Mountains 

-a landmass that projects conspicuously above its surroundings and is higher                                     than a hill.

Example : Look, their is a mountain.

Translation : Lantawa may uma.

8.)  Abaga  –  Shoulder

–  the laterally projecting part of the human body formed of the bones and joints with their covering tissue by which the arm is connected with the trunk.

Example : She puts her backpack on her shoulder.

Translation : Gin butang sa iya backpack sa iya abaga.

9.) Untat/Untati – Stop 

–  to hinder or prevent the passage of

Example : Stop doing that.

Transalation : Untati na ang ginahimo mo.

10.) Nahidlaw  –  Miss 

–  notice the loss or absence of.

Example : I miss you.

Translation : Nahidlaw nako simo.
